Colors

Fall colors are my favorites... Deep red and dark purple, chocolate brown, golden yellow and rust orange.
I love how the fruits and veggies of the season match the leaves on the trees. And the colors evoke much-needed warmth on these crisp, short days. We enjoyed a fun trip to a festive family-run apple orchard and pumpkin patch this weekend, complete with hay bales and crunchy leaves underfoot, warm doughnuts and hot apple cider, homemade pies and fresh caramel apples. We strolled along hand in hand, in the last light of the fading sun, sipping cider and tip-toeing through the large pumpkin patch. We picked our prize pumpkin and Jonny bravely carried the 20+lb thing back to the country store (we had forgotten to bring along a cute red wagon for our harvest). We drove leisurely through the winding neighborhood streets on the way home, amazed at the vibrancy and variety in the colorful leaves. It is exhilarating and depressing at the same time- knowing that in the coming weeks, even the most beautiful tree will soon loose all of its colors...and will be left bare, thin and fragile, just a tangle of pokey sticks.
