unruly hair.
big earrings.
slightly hippieish clothing.
silliness.
Who will i be when i'm all grown up?
i'm finding out, little by little. mostly, my style is the same. my heart is the same. but my life...is different.
Being a grown-up means:
- no more long summer vacations
- paying utility bills
- being more excited about a new bath mat than a new pair of heels
- deadlines
- insurance
- grocery shopping
But it also means:
- living with the love of my life
- being the boss of me (-ish)
- nesting
- perspective
- finally moving up from the 'kids table' at family events
- realizing how great my parents were/are
Sometimes now i look at small children and i think about what they'll be like when they grow up.
It's hard to imagine... but one day they'll be like me:
On the flip-side of childhood, looking back and wondering how the heck they got to where they are... reflecting on the blessings and experiences of their life, on the people who got them that far. dreaming of plans for the future.
Feeling old but still naive. longing to be a kid again but enjoying adulthood. missing their parents and contemplating how to keep in touch with their siblings.
Does never-neverland exist? maybe...in our hearts. maybe that is why we have to grow up, and have children of our own...to let another precious soul live the adventures of this world. to pass along the legacy of childhood: the magic. the joy. the freedom. the wonder. to help them experience the beauty of this life, and live it with them, one more time.
I can't wait to do that, someday...
(no, this is not an announcement.)

I don't feel grown up yet, but at least regarding starting a family--it's a crazy ride, but worth it! That will be a fun day when you have a little on of your own :)
