there is something inexplicably thrilling about eating outside. alfresco. in the open air. fresh.
somehow, it can turn even the most bland afternoon sandwich into something luxurious.
this week, our modest dinner of margherita pizza and grapes on an old flannel blanket was made fancy by the grass underneath it, tickling our toes, and the trees up above it, providing shade and a rustling in the wind.
a short walk through the nature center with my handsome man topped off the evening. thick brush surrounding narrow walking paths, streams and ponds gave the illusion of seclusion, though i knew we were just steps from 5:00 traffic, fast food joints, and thousands of zealous Boise State fans.
to me, it was a metaphor for life. i am always 'in the middle of the city'. there is always stress, noise, distractions and pollution surrounding me. but i can find sanctuary. i can plant shrubs and flowers and pave quiet paths inside of me, and i can go to this place of stillness and solitude, to find peace.
