Meanwhile, back at the ranch

This home came to us. We saw it one day and loved it, but hesitated too long (2 days) and it disappeared. We eventually moved on and put an offer on a different house. It didn't work out. Thank goodness.
Literally 30 minutes later, we found out this one was available again. Didn't think twice the second time, and snatched it up as fast as we could. It was meant to be. We are excited to make memories here and make it our own. We felt like we were on HGTV for a second there.

Homeownership is crazy. A double edged sword.

Side one: Its ours! We have space! We can do whatever we want! It is so liberating after living in 5 different apartments together. (I'm hoping SIX is our lucky number. Let's stay here for a while, shall we?)

Side two: Its ours! We have space?! We are responsible for all of this?? What do we do now?

Item numero uno on my listo: We ripped out the carpet.
We changed out all the locks and bought smoke/carbon monoxide detectors. Agonized over paint color choices, then painted for 3 days and 3 nights. Its called "vanilla wafer", a creamy, barely yellow. And on the fourth day, the sanding began. The original wood floors throughout the home were reborn. Now I catch myself just staring at the beautiful glossy floors for hours, minding the drool of course. They are lovely. Even someone's dirty socks don't look so bad when they're haphazardly strewn on those floors.

It's a wonderful little old house. Its been maintained well. Perfect for us. Three bed, 1.5 baths. Fireplace. Giant garage. Beautiful landscaping. A composite wood deck. Built-ins. Tiny closets. A new fridge! Crushed ice, here I come.

We have a lot of stuff. But not very much furniture. It looks spacious. I'm trying to resist the urge to fill it up.

Our neighbors got lucky in the form of Jonnys chocolate chip cookies. So glad I have my Grandma's name. I fit right in with Rose, Wendy, Nancy and Belinda.

Jonny can ride his bike to work and come home nice and sweaty! It's an 8 mile ride each way. He's so brave.

We had our first dinner party and I used my cotton tablecloth from Iran and lit candles. We drank lemonade out of mason jars. It was a barbecue. We are now those people- the ones who put those heavenly, smoky, sizzling meat smells into the air just as the sun is going to sleep and the lighting gets real magical. You know the ones. The ones you shake your jealous fist at, or maybe run around your neighborhood trying to find, to grovel at their feet in hopes of a tender morsel.

We are in love.
We are so blessed.

Most days we feel like we are still playing house. Like someone's gonna bust down the door one day and say, "Alright you two. You've had your fun, now run along now."
But we're enjoying it while it lasts. And keeping the door locked.

And now, some pictures from my iphone.
